modsTools - MODS Observing Script Preparation Tools Version 1.0 - 2011 August 4 Installation These are standalone Perl scripts with no special modules or other requirements. The scripts require Perl 5.5 or later. The tarball unpacks into the modsTools-v1.0/ directory in your current working directory. To make it the official version, create a symbolic link: ln -s modsTools-v1.0 modsTools and then add an entry in your default login shell path pointing to the modsTools/ directory. This way, when future versions are available, you just unpack the new tarball and change the link. Using modsTools The programs, if given with no arguments, will type a usage message. Adding the -h flag will add an simple example. Adding the -V flag will print the version number. Be sure to include the version number when reporting bugs or problems, as you might be using an out-of-date version. Getting Help A scripting manual is available online at www.astronomy.ohio-state.edu/MODS/ObsTools/modsTools/ This page also includes links to all of the example scripts in the manual, and the latest versions of the modsTools package. Because we are still in the early days between MODS1 Commissioning and first partner science observing, updates to these tools will be frequent. The website above has a Bug Report form. Please use it rather than sending email to me (it does that, but it also records the bug in a way I can track activity). Please feel free to contact me with comments and suggestions for other tools. We're all going to be learning how to best use MODS, so LBT community input will be most welcome. ------------------------------ R. Pogge, OSU Astronomy Dept. pogge@astronomy.ohio-state.edu
