LBT Board Report

Pat returned from the recent LBT Board Meeting and gave a report. One issue for us is shipment of the LBT bell jar and mirror cell for aluminization system testing and integration. The earliest shipping date is about January 2002, with a March 2002 arrival in Columbus.

Regarding contracts for facility instruments (like MODS), the LBTPO will begin formal negotiations with the instrument teams soon.

Pat will be leading a board working group to examine operational issues related to running LBTO. These include an examination of operational styles we might adopt, staffing, costs, work schedules, and instrumentation support issues.

OSU will host the next LBT board meeting in October.

Optics

The remainder of the meeting was a detailed discussion of the optics bids. This discussion must remain confidential and will not be reported here in the public notes.

The next MODS meeting will July 16th at 3pm in the Astronomy Conference Room.
