MODS Team Progress Report

2004 September 22

Attendees: Darren DePoy, Mark Derwent, Tom O'Brien, Jerry Mason, Bruce Atwood, Dan Pappalardo, & Rick Pogge

Optics

So far, no word from SOML on two outstanding issues with the large optics problems they have been having:

  1. The damage to the blue camera corrector lens parent. We are still waiting for a detailed report from SOML, which was promised last week.
  2. Camera Primary Mirror #4 that was cracked on machining. We have another (unfigured) mirror blank that should be fine, we need to discuss options with SOML for getting it figured as a replacement.

MODS Opto-Mechanical Systems

Tom has sent out the first bid package for the AGW camera stage, about 20 parts for support, the stage, the box, etc. None of the "guts" (lens & camera mounts, etc.) yet, lots to do and will occupy a fair amount of Tom's effort this fall.

Mark has assembled the first multislit unit downstairs, and is collecting the motors and sensors needed to setup the first tests.

Mark is also finishing up the bid package for the Calibration System, which we may have ready for review and letting out to bid next week.

Next week is the Department's external review, followed by a period of absense and travel, so there will be no MODS meeting until later in October.
