LBT OSU/RC Queue Observing: UTC 2008 November 24

Summary:

Seeing ~0.8 at beginning of night and ~1.0 toward the end.  light clouds
throughout night, non-photometric.  Had several problems over the
night. At one point we had trouble focusig the scope. The focus
parameters had to be reworked once we hit the limit in mirrors Y
direction. Using universal offsets of y=-1.5 and rx=-32.25 gave
corrected the problem of hitting the y limit. Later in the night, we
recieved a communication error from LBC and restarted the instrument
(twice).  This fixed the problem.  However, a little while later got
same error but restarting the instument did not correct the issue and
then the LBC control interface froze.  Several more restarts of
instrument were tried, along with several restarts of CMU with no
change.  While trying to determine next step, interface became
responsive. not sure what fixed the problem.  Afterwards, observing went
relatively smoothly.  A couple of errors noted below were quickly
corrected.  Also had some problems with the image quality of DD068B-r
observations, psfs were odd-shaped. The focus was verified, but image
quality did not change.

UT 20081123 23:25
- completed 2 darks

UT 00:40
- starting skyflats, test sdt_U 1sec exp, 9K counts. scaled to a 4sec
exp and started OB

UT 00:47
- doing 1sec test exp for Bessel-B flats, 7K counts. scaled to 6sec exptime.

UT 00:52
- doing 1sec test exp for Bessel-V flats, 2K counts. scaled to 15sec exptime.

UT 01:01
- moving to N6946, focused 10'N

UT 01:31
- began N6946 OB, 

UT 02:01
- stopping OB due to changing focus, moved to AndXVIII_b1 and began to
focus.  problems focusing after idl routine lbtfpia returned a large
correction in several parameters which made the focus worse. lots of
coma (Z7), hit y limit, seems to happen above 60degrees elevation.

UT 02:25
- moving to target with lower elevatoin while focus correction is being
determined by Olga.  Moving to NDsn2494

UT 02:29
- attempting to focus.  removing active optics correct, which was part
of the reason the scope was hitting the y limit.  was not responding to
our focus z7 correction b/c at y limit.  elevation at 48, but still at y
limit.  changing global offsets to compensate and move off y limit:
y=-1.5, rx=-32.25. Now able to focus properly.

- beginning NDsn2494_r OB, seeing ~.8

- stopped OB due to defocusing. moved back to AndXVIII_b1 and focused image!

camera still not working, power cycling again. 'rpc error'
