LBT OSU/RC Queue Observing: UTC 2008 November 25

Summary:

High cirrus at start of night. Mulitple system errors, noted below.  In
total, lost over 3hrs to this.  high cirrus clouds till we were clouded
out completely at about UT 08:00. Also had some trouble with rotation in
the first image of several OBs.

N6946, UVaLBV/PHL293B, NDy155, N628, NDv1647Ori, N672


Detailed Notes:

UT 00:12
- started 25bias OB

UT 00:28 
-opening dome

UT 00:46
- significant high cirrus clouds.  began Bessel_V skyflats, 'left main
mirror failed to focus' error. disconnected LBCcontrol and reconnected,
no effect.  recollimated mirror, no effect.  LBC showes 'hard flushing'
then makes no more progress. cycling power. 'CCD controller error'
recieved after trying to restart LBC.  cycling power for LBC again. 'CCD
controller error' recieved again after restart attempt. cycle power
third time. LBC appeared to come back on line, but makes no progress
when try to run OB. 'left main mirror failed to focus' error. rebooting
CMU and LBCcontrol. LBCcontrol up, but not allowing us to switch pages,
just hanging.with 'transfering data' or 'waiting for LBCcontrol'
messages. after waiting ~10min power control page comes up allowing us
to turn LBC back on.

UT 01:35
- doing V skyflat as test image, did not complete OB, stopped it and got
'left main mirror failed to focus' again.  trying new target.

UT 01:41
- moving to N6946, attempting focus OB. did not work, puts filter wheel
in right place, moves rotator, but does not expose. when we stopped OB
got 'left main mirror failed to focus' error.  disconnected LBCcontrol
from LBT and now it will expose and run focus OB properly. reconnected
LBCcontrol to LBT and not exposing again. got 'left main mirror failed
to focus' error when stopped OB.  restarting instrument interface.  not
working, got same error. TO started rebooting various systems.  after
rebooting oss LBC was able to expose

UT 02:05
- moved 10'N of N6946 to focus

UT 02:15
- began N6946 OB, first image looks like it was rotated during exposure,
rest ok. seeing ~.8"

- moving to UVaLBV/PHL293B-g, focused

- started PHL293B-g OB, seeing ~1."

- began OB for N925, mirror error, cycling power for LBC, didn't work,
can't restart. rebooted CMU.  waiting for LBCcontrol to allow access to
power page to restart. restart seemed to work, N925 too close to zenith
for scope.

UT 05:35
- moving to NDv1647Ori, focused

- starting NDv1647Ori OB

- moved to N672, focused

- began OB for N672, rotation jump in first image,  Seeing ~1.3",

- 'CCD controller, OB execution error', restarting LBC, unable to
restart LBC, rebooting CMU.

UT 07:03
- unable to restart LBC, cycling power again. worked. Clouds thickening
rapidly. UT 07:14 - refocused N672 and started OB (again), rotation jump
in first image,seeing variable (clouds) ~1.3

UT 07:50
- 'rpc communication error',lost last image of OB, cycling power, didn't
work, restarting CMU.

UT 08:34
- LBC working, but completely clouded over.  Closing dome. 

UT 08:43
- began 3dark OB

UT 09:30
- began second set of 3dark, camera error during 2nd dark. (OB execution
error). cycling power.

UT 10:15
- camera working, restarting 3dark

UT 10:55
- camera error at end of second dark exposure.
