OSU/RC Queue Observing UTC 2010 Oct. 04 (civil date Oct. 02/03, 2010) =============================================================================== Observer: Jeff Blackburne (OSU), Matthias Dietrich (OSU) Observing Assistant: Steve Allason Support Astronomer : Dave Thompson Instrumentation : Tim Shih =========== Instrument: =========== Lucifer ========= Summary: ========= Plagued by clouds again, though we did get some useful data tonight. Projects: OSU_dietrich: Observed SDSS 2043, with telluric and standard. UM_luci: Observed telluric and standard for nova V2468 Cyg, despite some problems with the scripts. Then went to the target and found that it was impossible to locate the nova in the acquisition image. No useful spectra obtained. UM_gehrz: Obtained a few images, but clouds were a big problem. No useful data obtained. OSU_atlee: Observed MS 0451 in H, after observing the "pre" standard. But clouds rolled in after only one 5-image dither pattern. 01:08 Sunset. Clouds. No twilight flats this evening. 03:15 Opened. Some clouds. 03:28 Pointing correction. 03:36 Starting program OSU_dietrich. Acquiring target SDSS2043. Seeing seems to be about 1". 04:01 Started Dietrich_SDSS2043 science script. 04:30 Started telluric acquisition. 04:48 Started Standard acq. 04:53 Started standard science. 05:03 Starting program UM_luci. Acquiring telluric. 05:30 Started telluric spectra. NOTE: had a problem finding the guider because of two problems in the science script. First, ROT_MODE was missing from the Telescope setup section. Second, that section (telescope setup) should not be in science scripts, as it undoes the slit acquisition. 06:00 Started acquisition of nova V2468 Cyg. Unable to identify the nova in the acquisition image. Finding chart was not helpful. Moving to next project. 06:47 Started UM_gerhz project. After a few exposures, clouds covered it (and most of the sky). No useful data obtained. ~7:00 Moved to UM_luci target V2362 Cyg, as clouds covered all other areas of the sky. But clouds covered this target before we could acquire. 07:12 Closed for clouds. 10:15 Opened. 10:18 Starting program OSU_atlee. Started MS0451_preStand. 10:31 Guide star at edge of chip. Pointing correction. 10:34 Started MS0451_H. Changed the exposure times to DIT=20sec; NDIT=3; save_mode='integrated'. Also streamlined the dither patterns to avoid repeating exposures at the same position. 10:48 Clouds causing non-transparency. We will keep integrating until we have to close. 10:51 Lost the guide star. Big clouds overhead. Closing. No morning twilight flats. We will have to get by with screen flats.
