OSU/RC Queue Observing UTC 2011 June 8 (civil date 2011 June 7/8) ============================================================================== Observer: Paul Martini (OSU), Joe Antognini (OSU), George Privon (UVa) Observing Assistant: Steven Allanson Support Astronomer : Marco Pedani Instrumentation : =========== Instrument: =========== LUCI ========= Summary: ========= We were closed until 04:00 due to high winds and then had problems with winds near the limit most of the night. The wind was primarily from the SW, which was unfortunately where most of our targets were. Several acquisitions were lost due to wind causing us to lose the guide star lock. Observations were ultimately obtained of ND_oldsn_ir, UM_458Vul, and UVa_H2Img. Several others were attemped but needed to be aborted. Additional time was lost due to subtle script errors. In one case the guide star hit a limit during a spectroscopic offset. This appears to have been missed by the script checker because there was a fairly large blind offset at the end of the acquisition script. In another case the finding chart for a program appears to have identified the wrong target. ========= Details: ========= 02:30 Sunset 04:01 The winds are somewhat high, but seem to be dropping so we are opening and observing targets facing away from the wind. 04:06 Twilight ends ======== UVa_BCD ======== 04:21 Acquiring UVa_BCD_J1222 04:30 Lucifer interface crashed 05:15 Beginning exposure for BCD_J1222 05:28 Abandoning BCD_J1222. The guide star was lost because it hit a limit during the first offset. ======== ND_oldsn_ir ======== 05:32 Running ND_oldsn_ir_sn09nr_J 06:04 Running ND_oldsn_ir_sn09nr_H 06:06 Failed to find the guide star. Fixing pointing. 06:08 Rerunning OB for ND_oldsn_ir_sn09nr_H ======== Wind Issues ======== 06:40 Running MOS acq for GalCentX/gc4 06:45 Aborting due to wind. Moving now to UVa_BCD_J1423 06:47 Aborting to check the wind speed at a different position. 06:55 Trying UVa_BCD 06:59 Abandoning this as well as torques are too high on azimuth. Slewing to UVa_H2IMG_N6240_H2, same problem ======== UM_Vul458_Spec, Im ======== 07:33 Moving to UM_Vul458_Spec 08:24 Target finally acquired, taking spectra. Finding chart appears to have indicated the wrong object. 08:56 Beginning to take K-band images. 09:06 Taking J-band images. 09:16 Taking H-band images. ======== UVa_H2IMG ======== 09:30 Returning to UVa_H2IMG_N6240_H2. 10:31 Astronomical twilight 10:32 Slewing to standard star HIP 92428 for UM_Vul458_Spec 10:56 Wind too high, moving to a different telluric standard. 11:14 Taking arcs for UM_Vul458_Spec 11:16 Taking spec flats for UM_Vul458_Spec 11:30 Closing up, starting darks 12:01 Sunrise
