OSU/RC Queue Observing UTC 2011 Sept 22 (civil date 2011 Sept 21/22) ======================================= Observers: R. Pogge, R. Stoll, S. Chung (OSU) Observing Assistant: David Gonzalez-Huerta Support Astronomer : Dave Thompson Instrumentation : Instrument: LBC Summary: MODS1 guiding still inoperative, working with LBC tonight, a combination of final instrument checkout and OSURC observing blocks as we can. Night started with heavy clouds, some verga in the distance, but satellite promises clearing late - Monsoons are back for a last farewell... Details: 06:00 - Taking Biases and Darks, since skies are still murky with cloud, a few breaks overhead but still not ready to open up 07:00 - Clearing enough to open up, still clouds around. Problems opening the doors, however... 07:40 - Finally open, Checking pointing and collimation .... - OSU_monitor N672. Observed during transit; insufficiently precise copointing, so one blue image shows differential field rotation, since this is a very high elevation field. Dave Thompson suggests this can be ameliorated with minimal overhead (time to take one non-extrafocal image) by revising the focus fields to center on a source with known coordinates so that lbcrangebal can be run near the position of the science field. 1" seeing. 09:41 - OSU_monitor N628 focus and collimation field. Converged ok. 09:51 - OSU_monitor N628 science field Seeing 1.1" in r, 0.7" in u end of OB collimation has degraded to 1.2" in r. 10:30 - UVa_A and6_4 collimating on field. 10:38 - Begin OB. Seeing 1.0" in r, 0.8" in u 10:52 - Band of cirrus beginning to roll through, being illuminated by moon. Seeing 0.8" in r and g. 11:11 - OSU_monitor N925 focus field 11:34 - OSU_monitor science field. (Astronomical twilight has just begun.) 11:49 - Clouds thicker, and getting bright. David decided the telescope needs to be closed, so we stopped OB early.
