Guiding and WFS working well. Details: Mirror several degrees out of equilibrium due to MODS work inside dome; David applied gross focus corrections by hand after pointing. Guide preset initially challenged by guider grabbing bright edge of pickoff mirror. Reduced guiding ROI to fend off this problem in the future. On-axis active preset successful first try. ROI, center, and hot spot reasonably accurate. 05:40 -- First images on the science camera during on-axis preset. 0.8" red 1" blue. Off-axis active preset successful. 05:58 -- First images on the science camera during off-axis preset. Wavefront corrections working correctly for off-axis. 06:18 -- testing MODS imaging mode. Need to insert a pause for wavefront convergence. Beginning to get clouds. When 06:52 -- Closed telescope due to clouds 08:30 -- Reopened, pointed 08:39 -- Doing acquisition on OSU_FeIIAGN/IZw1 Failed. BAD GUIDE STAR LOCATION. -- Tried acquisition on OSU_FeAGN/Mkn957. Failed, again guide star out of guide probe travel region. 08:52 -- hacked and redid IZw1. We are way out of focus; the temperature was changing rapidly. Collimating on Persson standard star. 09:02 -- Resent hacked IZw1 preset. 09:10 -- began IZw1 obs script 09:34 -- Acquisition on UM RMHstarsM33_VarAW 09:39 -- Began UM RMHstarsM33_VarAW obs 10:23 -- Acquisition on standard star g191b2b 10:28 -- Began Standard star obs g191b2b 10:33 -- Acquisition on UM M33 B324 10:47 -- Began UM M33 B324W obs script. There are some clouds. 10:56 -- Started three 300 sec exposures on M33 B324W due to bad seeing and clouds, using the MODS control panel GUI. Purpose was to demonstrate use of MODS control panel to Dave Thompson, and teach how to observe outside of the scripts. Jump in the seeing from 1 arcsec to 1.4 arcsec. 11:14 -- Acquisition on UM RMHstarsM33_FHyperW_ls. Failed because guide star was lost due to clouds. 11:28 -- Telescope closed -- clouds. Addendum to 20110924_notes.txt 11:40 -- Beginning calibration data including arc lamp data with 0.6 arcsec slit, grating flat fields, and biases.
