OSU/RC Queue Observing UTC 2011 November 24 (civil date 2011 Nov 23/24) =========================================== Observers: K.Z. Stanek, R. Stoll (OSU) Observing Assistant: David Gonzalez Huerta Support Astronomer : Olga Kuhn Instrumentation : John Morris Instrument: LBC Summary: Partly cloudy. Seeing fairly decent, ~1.0". Details: 00:00 Took 25 biases 00:30 Started with BR flats. Some clouds on the sky, so flats might be dubious. 00:37 Still saturated (1-sec flats) 00:42 Not saturated anymore, running a 5xBR flat set. 00:44 50,000 counts in R, 30,000 counts in B in 1-sec. 00:47 Now a Vz 5xset (2-sec). 00:51 Now a gi 5xset (4-sec). Saturated in i, good in g. 01:00 Another gi 5x set, doubled the g-band expousre (edited the OB). This is a good set. Should have done g-band 4x exposure time. 01:05 Another gi 5x set, g-band 4x exposure time. 01:10 Done with flats. There are clouds, so use flats with caution. 01:11 Moving to the first field to check the pointing; some clouds. 01:14 Doing the collimation. Failed, too much out of focus. 01:21 Doing collimation again. Failed, too much out of focus. 01:27 Collimation again, after TO did an offset. Is working now. 01:33 Doing pointing on the same field (NGC 6946 foxus). 01:37 Starting NGC 6946, exposure time x1.2 (clouds). Seeing about 1.5". FWHM about 5 pixels. 02:22 Went to M31 field, collimating. Seeing about 1.1". Thin clouds. 0.8" seeing in some images. 02:57 Moved to 2003 SB45. Will attempt non-sidereal tracking. Took a while to collimate etc. 03:10 Taking data for 2003 SB45. Seeing about 1.0". Very little trailing. 03:19 Moving to 2003 SY90. Collimation is slow (few stars). Seeing abot 1". Very little trailing, good seeing. Thse observations have collimation overhead of about 5-10 minutes/each. 03:40 Moved to the SN field, collimating. Running very short exposures (x0.1) as requested by the PI. Seeing about 0.8". 03:58 Went to comet Elenin. Collimating. Seeing about 1.1". We will do it again (there was a coordinate mixup). One needs to switch the guiding off. The PI should check the position. 04:30 Went to the next field (2003 WD111). 04:41 Going to 2003 UZ10. Seeing about 1.0". 04:54 Going to 1994 PN12. 05:07 Going to NGC 628 (nothing else is up). Seeing about 1.2". Still some clouds, so using 1.3x exposure time factor. 06:03 Going to NGC 672 (still no good queue targets). Seeing about 1.0". Using scale x1.1 (still some clouds, but it might be getting better). 06:52 Going to 2002 RU61. Seeing about 1.0". There are still come clouds. 07:08 Going to 2001 OY60. 07:21 Going to 2002 UJ16. Still clouds. Seeing about 1.0". 07:34 Going to 1998 HP43. Seeing ~1.1". Still clouds. 07:46 Going to 2001 RT111. Seeing ~1.2". More cloudy. Doing it again. (we took a short break to check for the wind etc.) 08:07 Doing 2001 RT111 again. Still cloudy. 08:15 Moving to 2011 UO56. Applied 1.3x scaling for the exposure time. 08:28 Moving to 2002 TE13. Maybe a bit less cloudy. Seeing ~1.4". 1.1x scaling applied. 08:41 Checking the wind speed (rotating the dome). 08:45 Mowing to NGC 2403. Too cloudy, shutting down. It is clearer now, but the AO is "searching for the maximum wind". 09:20 We are opening. Will try to do NGC 2403 again. Seeing about 1.2". 09:33 Started exposing on NGC2403, 1.1x scale exptimes. Seeing ~1.4". 09:46 Doing another one, hoping for a better seeing. Less cloudy now. Seeing ~1.5". 10:02 Going to NGC 2903. Left the field, it was getting windy 10:14 Going to M81. Seeing about 1.5". 10:36 Going to NGC 3077. Seeing seems better, ~1.0". However, OA decided to stop the exposure because he was "hearing wind". Half the sequence done.
