Observers: G. De Rosa, S. J. Schmidt, D. Berg Telescope Operator: S. Allenson Support Astronomer: M. Edwards Instrument: LUCI - MODS Summary: During the day LUCI had a communication issue between filter wheel and camera mechanism. Solved during the evening by restarting the software (Michelle). At sunset, dome closed due to clouds. Dome opened at 01:13. We observed through thick cirrus and clouds from UT1:40 to UT 04:55, when we closed the dome due to clouds. We used the closed time to get LUCI and MODS calibrations. We called the night at UT 11:30. Weather: At sunset, dome closed due to clouds. At opening, thick cirrus ahead, thick clouds at the horizon. Bright moon during the 1st part of the night. UT 02:45 humidity~60%, cirrus, bright moon. UT 03:14, weather conditions getting worse (cirrus+clouds). UT 03:35 Sky almost entirely covered. UT 04:55 close dome due to clouds: overcast. UT 01:13 Opening dome UT 1:27 good to slew to target, collimation shows 1” seeing, thick cirrus and patchy clouds UT 1:40 -- OSU_UCDz -- SL234449B -- HK_Science filter wheel failure during first attempt to run script Script repeated twice in order to get enough S/N (thick cirrus, seeing very good) UT 2:15 -- OSU_UCDz -- SL234449B -- Jz_Science Change grating Script repeated twice in order to get enough S/N (thick cirrus, seeing very good) UT 2:45 -- OSU_UCDz -- SL234449B -- TelluricJz Starting to have guiding problems, due to cirrus+moon Took telluric spectra without guiding UT 2:58 -- OSU_UCDz -- SL234449B -- TelluricHK (clouds+cirrus) filter wheel issue needed to re-acquire telluric star before a last set of exposures since we were not guiding UT 3:28 -- OSU_UCDz -- SL234449A_HK (clouds+cirrus) guide star very bright, we made it out of the cloud UT 3:36, starting integration Script repeated twice in order to get enough S/N (thick cirrus, seeing very good) UT 4:04 -- SL234449A_zJ (clouds thickening - humidity rising to 60%) Script repeated to get sufficient S/N barely guiding, sky almost entirely covered UT 04:40 last exposure of series had no trace. Sky covered equally in clouds - running exposures in case the we hit a hole and get some target flux, but officially not getting data due to weather UT 04:55 close dome due to clouds LUCI calibrations: UT 5:14 -- OSU_BALQSO_He/HIP50459 dark for a modified exposure time UT 5:16 -- AZ_Lensspec dark.cal UT 6:40 -- UVa_BCD_flat checked the last 2 flats - short on counts compared to others. re-running without explicit lamp time set (seems to be incorrect) UT 6:52 -- ND_sn11fe wrote flat script for PI (flat_zJ.cal) because none was provided.
