Observers: Sun Mi Chung, Michael Fausnaugh, Loreto Barcos-Munoz Telescope Operator: Steve A. Support Astronomers: Dave Thompson. Instrument: LUCIMOS, MODS Observing Log for 2013 October 25/26 Summary: Clear all night Beginning of night had excellent seeing (0.5"-0.6"), and gradually degraded to 1.3"-1.4" at the end. Observed OSU_KELT1 (LUCI), UVa_BCDJ0301 (LUCI), OSU_MAPS0855 (MODS), OSU_BALQ_0835 (MODS), standard star G191b2b (MODS) Covered minimum window for KELT1 transit, but lost guiding around 06:40 (UT), and aborted the final 15 minutes. Otherwise smooth, except unclear finding charts resulted in some inefficiency. Details: calibrations: LUCIFER calibrations will be done tomorrow after first observations. Conditions at sunset: Sky is clear UT: 0:30 Sky is clear. 01:14 Start first attempt of data acq on LUCI for KELT1 01:34 Alignment #Creating a second version of .acq file (KELT!_v2.acq). We need more exposure time (changed to 12s) in order to make use of the alignment stars that were selected through the MOS acq process. 01:51 beginning KELT1 science integration 02:19 seeing ~ 0.9", variable. 02:32 seeing ~0.6", still variable 02:39 repeating KELT1, seeing 0.8", variable. 03:25 repeating KELT1, seeing 0.6, less variable. 04:13 repeating KELT1, seeing 0.5, still varies. 04:38 A little bit of haze has moved in. seeing ~0.61" 04:59 repeating KELT1, seeing ~ 0.82 05:46 repeating KELT1, seeing ~ 0.8 06:33 repeating KELT1, seeing ~ 0.7 06:42 GCS died. Some sort of software bug... No longer guiding, but still tracking. Will continue taking 1 minute exposures without re-aligning and check each 1 minute exposure to confirm that the spectra are roughly in the same positions within the slits as in previous exposures (when we were still guiding). Once the spectra have drifted significantly, we will stop the observation. 07:01 Drifted -6 pixels from last guided image 07:05 Aborted exposure 07:06 Moving to UVa_BCDJ0301 (acquisition) 07:26 Beginning UVa_BCDJ0301 science integration 07:48 Moving to telluric (acquisition) 07:58 Starting telluric (spec), seeing ~0.8" 08:05 Switched to MODS 08:19 Started OSU_MAPS/0855 acquisition 08:52 Started OSU_MAPS/0855 science integration (had to call Kevin to identify HII region), seeing ~1.4 09:52 Light/patchy cirrus clouds. seeing ~/1.2 11:19 Started flux calibration on standard star g191b2b 11:25 acqmods on J0809 -- failed... "couldn't move probe to position". Something wrong with guide star coordinates or PA ? Guide star too close to the edge of the allowed field. 11:36 acqmods on J0835 11:48 execmods on J0835 12:33 stoping after second exposure. Starting calibrations
