Observers: R. Pogge (OSU), E. Huff (OSU) Support Astronomer: D. Thompson (from Tucson) Telescope Operator: David Gonzalez Instrument Config: MODS1 Summary No observing due to high winds. Clearer some cirrus and a little windy, but below limits. A promising start given yesterday's snow and high winds. We'll start assuming poor seeing because of mirror equilibration (few degrees off because of the dramatic temperature drop with yesterday's brief storm), but if it improves later we'll switch to better seeing targets. We were open only for about 30 minutes before winds gusted over limits, where they stayed pretty much all night, except as noted. No observing. As per time allocation, we handed off the telescope to the PEPSI team (J. Storm and I. Illyn) for PFU commissioning at 2am. Details: All times are UTC unless otherwise indicated 02:00 - Open, post-sunset photography from the VATT by a visiting professional photographer from Italy. 02:37 - Wind gusts to 22m/s, closing. Some gusts up to 25m/s later. 07:15 - Wind now below limits, but got a door alarm while attempting to open. David going up to reset a system on Level 5. Right shutter door is stuck. Main drive not latch pins... 07:30 - Needed to wake Mike Midkiff to go up to Level 10 to have a look. 07:45 - Mike up on 10. Drive is functioning, but door is driving against wind, and losing (low-drive is having problems). Wind starting to gust over limits, so we have a no-go condition. 09:00 - Never opened, wind was too high. Handed off to PEPSI so they can watch the anemometer.
