Observers: P. Martini (OSU), G. Simonian (OSU), M. Rutkowski (UMN) Support Astronomer: Dave T. Telescope Operator: David Gonzalez SUMMARY: Weather at opening is very good. No clouds with a light haze on the horizon as in previous days, humidity at dome opening comparable to previous nights at ~10%. Initial seeing is (again) very good at 0.7". Humidity increased ~20% over the course of the evening, whereas seeing was at 1.3" by nights, peaking at ~1.5" at its worst. Telescope configured for MODS1 Details: All times are UTC unless otherwise indicated Programs succesfully observed as follows: MODS: ND_LRGCGM (LRG1111+5547), OSU_AGN14 (PG1244, NGC4051,NGC5548), OSU_VOID (VGS30A,38A, 34A), OSU_VOID (VGS51A) was ~90% completed, but elevation limit reached at end of night TIMELINE 03:00 Start acquisition first target, Standard GD153. 03:14 Acquired Standard (Guider Loop Failure delayed acquisition, T.O. corrected) 03:27 Began science observations on Standard GD153 (Seeing at 0.73; sky mu=18) 04:01 Acquiring on ND_LRGCGM Target:1111+5547 04:15 Acquired, beginning science exposures on ND_LRGCGM (1111). Seeing a 0.9". LRG target is centered in slit; slit will include QSO+LRG target, though QSO is not centered in slit due to slit PA 04:52 Acquiring on new science target OSU_AGN14 (PG1244) 05:03 Acquired, beginning science exposures on OSU_AGN14 (PG1244). Seeing at 1.0", airmass requirement met 05:32 Acquiring on new science target OSU_AGN14 (NGC4051) 05:43 Acquired, beginning science exposure on OSU_AGN14 (NGC4051). Seeing at 1.2". Humidity has risen 10% over previous 2h. 06:12 Acquiring on new science target OSU_AGN14 (NGC 5548). Delay as left primary panicked during slew (loss of ~10 minutes) 06:30 Acquired, beginning science exposure on OSU_AGN14 (NGC4051). Seeing at 0.8". 07:02 Acquiring on new science target OSU_VOID (VGS30A) 07:11 Acquired, beginning science exposure on OSU_VOID (VGS30A). Seeing at ~1.4" 07:55 Acquiring new target OSU_VOID (VGS38A, with *HA0_HA3.acq) 08:07 Originally, acquisition script VGS38A_HA0_HA3.acq was submitted. The HA of this target prefers PA defined in VGS38A_HA2_HA5.acq. Initial acquisition script was cancelled mid-slew (CTRL-c). Slew was allowed to continue to position and then VGS38A_HA2_HA5.acq was submitted. Sequence of acquisition exposures were taken, but did not appear initially to write out (sequence ID # 0042, 0043). An additional by hand exposure through the slit on the target field was taken, but also not written to /newdata. But, issuing the "Update" command on the MODS1 Dashboard (lower left corner) seeemed to refresh the writeout cycle. Re-acquisition after update successful. 08:16 Acquired, beginning science exposures of OSU_VOID (VGS38A) seeing at 1.2" 08:54 Acquiring new target OSU_VOID (VGS34A) (PA as defined by HA2_HA5.acq) 09:05 Acquired, beginning science exposures of OSU_VOID (VGS34A) seeing at 1.2" 09:53 Acquiring new target OSU_VOID (VGS51A) 09:59 Acquired, beginning science exposures of OSU_VOID (VGS51A) seeing at 1.5" 10:28 Had to stop final exposure with 200s remaining on 3rd (final) frame for target VGS51A. We had breached an elevation limit at 24 degrees. 10:32 Acquiring standard star BD282411, mirror panic due to elevation breach, reset and re- acquiring 10:47 Acquired BD282411, acquiring dual grating calibrations 11:02 Finished all science observations 11:25 Submitted calibrations grlamps.cal, grflats.cal, grpixflats.cal, slitflat.cal; observers to bed shortly after
