LBT OSURC Partner Observing Notes February 22, 2015 (Night 7) Observers: Sarah Jane Schmidt, Scott Adams, Jake Turner Support Astronomer: Barry Rothberg (on call) Telescope Operator: Geno Bechetti Summary: A tiny bit of data from LUCI. At sunset, conditions were borderline (dewpoint and windin “warning,” patchy clouds) so we opened with a slight delay. At opening, the clouds were too thick to obtain data. Around UT ~5:45, a hole opened in the clouds. We acquired a science target but were not able to obtain a full set of spectra before the humidity spiked to 95% at UT ~6:30. Humidity hit 100% at UT 10:00 then remained high for the rest of the night. Targets observed: Partial data for OSU_SDSSRNnirqso/denJ0913, but no standard UT 1:15 at sunset, dewpoint and wind at warning levels, thick/patchy clouds UT 2:11 opening (test bias from LUCI looks good) UT 2:32 thick patch of clouds rolled in, lost star before collimation only cloud hole is pointing directly into the wind UT 5:23 trying for another sucker hole UT 5:26 still unable to collimate trying a different collimation star UT 5:52 acquiring OSU_SDSSRNnirqso/denJ0913 UT 6:15 starting obs script 1.3” seeing, probably looking through some cirrus thicker clouds are threatening to move in… humidity at 91% and climbing up to 2 mags of extinction from clouds now up to 2-4 mags of extinction. Guide star is very faint Can not see target from subtracted images UT 6:30 humidity to 95%, closing. UT 10:00 humidity to 100% UT 11:35 giving up - conditions the same any only ~1 hour before twilight
