LBT OSU/RC Observing Notes Date: 2015 Oct 11 Observers-- Fausnaugh, Adams Summary: Opened to relatively clear skies, light cirrus layer, haze/clouds along horizon. Conditions were stable through the night, with gradually worse cirrus clouds in the second half. Seeing was 1.0" to 0.8" There were 2 techical issues that cost some time. First a TCS failure at UT 4:08, approximately 1.25 hours to resolve. Second, we were unable to reconfigure for LBC at the end of the night (UT 8:51, ~0.25 hour before going back to MODS). Completed science targets: OSU_SBqsos4civ/q02059, OSU_SBqsos4civ/q2259, OSU_M33/M33a, M33e OSU_IC10LS OSU_ASASSNpy (into 18 degree twlight) --------------------------------------------------------- UT 01:05 - Opened to thin layer of cirrus, thick clouds on the horizon. UT 01:31 - acquiring a standard: BD284211 seeing 1.0" UT 01:52 - starting obs script we ran modsAlign thrice. The offsets looked reasonable but it would not center the target in the slit. Ended up doing manual offsets. imcslock was not working. Problem was that we forgot to run MODSwake. UT 01:58 - ok, starting obs script again and now things are working. We should still be able to aquire the first science target by the end of twilight. UT 02:09 - acquiring OSU_SBqsos4civ/q02059 observing. seeing 1.1". Sky transparency seems to be improving. Looks great overhead, but still a little murky near the horizon. UT 02:45 - acquiring OSU_SBqsos4civ/q2259 seeing 1.0" UT 02:56 - starting obs script UT 03:20 - acquiring OSU_M33/M33a seeing 1.0" UT 03:32 - starting obs we are starting at higher airmass (1.6) but the seeing is sub-arcsec nonetheless seeing 0.8" UT 04:08 - TCS problem. Reading out partial exposures (mods1r.20151011.0028.fits and mods1b.20150111.0011.fits) ~3 min early and pausing the obs script. Down time. UT 05:12 - collimating UT 05:20 - TCS problem again. Down time... UT 05:24 - reaquiring OSU_M33/M33a UT 05:35 - starting obs script -> the telescope issue resulted in the loss of 90 min of observing time seeing 1.0" UT 07:03 - acquiring OSU_IC10/ seeing 0.9", there is still a little bit of haze. starting obs script UT 8:15 - Warming up LBCs, will reconfigure at end of observation. UT 8:45 - Reconfiguring for LBC. UT 8:51 - System delay in moving the swing arms. UT 8:59 - Issue will take some time, going back to MODS UT 9:00 - acquiring OSU_M33e UT 9:05 - Some more telescope issues delaying the preset UT 9:26 - observing OSU_M33e Seeing ~ 0.9" (GCS GUI) UT 11:40- acquiring OSU_ASASSN15py UT 11:43- observing OSU_ASASSN15py Seeing ~ 0.8" (GCS GUI) UT 11:54- 18 degree twilight--pushing forward with more exposures Finshed just at 12 degree twilight UT 12:29- acquring g191b2b UT 12:35- observing g191b2b UT 12:43- sky is significantly brighter than 18 degree twilight
