LBT OSU/RC Observing Notes Date: 2015 Oct 12 Observers-- Fausnaugh, Adams Summary: Opened to partly cloudy skies. Conditions improved throughout the night. Much science done. Completed science targets: OSU_SBqsos4civ/q2118 OSU_IC10/IC10LS OSU_M33/M33_LS2 OSU_SBqsos4civ/q0139 OSU_IC10/IC10 OSU_SBqsos4civ/q0209 OSU_M33/M33f OSU_ASASSN/ASASSN15nx + some LBC imaging Partial observations: OSU_ASASSN/NGC2617 --------------------------------------------------------- UT 01:05 - Opened to scattered clouds. UT 01:40 - deploying LBCR for possible mixed mode observing later in the night. UT 01:54 - acquiring BD384211 and collimating there is cirrus throughout the sky. 1.0" seeing UT 02:01 - starting obs script for BD384211 running dofpia on LBC guider is showing ~0-3 mags of clouds UT 02:11 - acquiring IC10LS too cloudy for the guide star canceling and switching to poor weather programs UT 02:15 - acquiring OSU_SBqsos4civ/q2118 seeing 1.0", 0-2 mag of cloud cover UT 02:28 - starting obs script for OSU_SBqsos4civ/q2118 UT 02:50 - going two extra exposures due to poor conditions earlier cloud cover has been very light for these last two exposures (<0.5 mag) and seeing has improved to 0.8" UT 03:05 - acquiring OSU_IC10/IC10LS 0.9" seeing, scattered clouds, but none currently in the vicinity of the target UT 03:19 = starting obs script for OSU_IC10/IC10LS UT 04:44 - there were occasional clouds... seems like a borderline case for giving it extra observations, but we are going to move on... UT 04:45 - acquiring OSU_M33/M33_LS2 the guide star is pretty close to the edge of the patrol field, but the guiding seems adequate UT 04:55 - starting obs script for OSU_M33/M33_LS2 weather conditions seem to be improving. 0.9", clouds have been clearing UT 06:02 - acquiring OSU_SBqsos4civ/q0139 UT 06:13 - starting obs script for OSU_SBqsos4civ/q0139 1.0" seeing, maybe a little cirrus UT 06:39 - acquiring OSU_IC10/IC10 mos mask UT 06:53 - starting obs script for OSU_IC10/IC10 seeing 1.0", conditions pretty clear UT 07:31 - acquiring OSU_SBqsos4civ/q0209 Note: quide star is too close to the edge of the patrol field and consequently the collimation is poor. UT 07:40 - starting obs script for OSU_SBqsos4civ/q0209 seeing 1.1", mostly clear UT 08:09 - acquiring OSU_M33/M33f UT 08:23 - starting obs script for OSU_M33/M33f seeing 0.8", clear conditions UT 10:36 - starting OSU_ASASSN/ASASSN15nx - trying mixed mode (LBCR/MODS1) observing! UT 10:48 - starting MODS ob and LBC ob SIMULTANEOUSLY! whoa... got both the host and SN on the slit one of the r' images seems to have been taken before the dither finished. the mixed mode observing worked out really well -- zero extra overhead UT 11:24 - starting OSU_ASASSN/NGC2617 UT 11:36 - starting obs script for OSU_ASASSN/NGC2617 only had time for the first 2 exposures -- not calling the program 'complete'. Twilight is starting and we want to get in a 2nd standard for the night. UT 12:02 - acquiring g191b2b UT 12:20 - obs script for g191b2b. Reconfiguring to do twilight flats. UT 12:42 - starting twilights UT 13:06 - done. closing. got some lbcb V and Uspec flats & lbcr R and Y flats will run some lbc biases once the dome is buttoned up.
