Date: 2016 June 14 UT Observers: P. Garnavich, M. Fausnaugh, J. Zinn TO: Geno B. SA: Barry R. Moon phase: 1st quarter + 2 days Summary: After a windy afternoon/evening, we opened to clear skies---conditions were photometric all night. Seeing was poor to start (~2.0 arcseconds), but targets were low elevation (30--40 degrees). Conditions improved to sub-arcsecond seeing near 7 UT, which initiated the LUCI AO override. Telescope was handed back with MODS at 10 UT, we did one early morning target through twilight in 0.7 arcsecond seeing. Completed Programs (Binocular MODS): OSU_ASASSN-15uh, OSU_ASASSN-16fp Also observed: 8/18 UM_V2468cyg exposures---LUCI AO override interupted this program. Details (All times UT): ---------------------------------- Plan is Binocular MODS all night 02:30 -- Opened shortly before sunset, sky is totally clear. Wind is somewhat high (10 m/s). 03:06 -- Collimating. Wind speed has dropped to normal levels. 03:11 -- Acquiring Hz44 (standard star). Will do an i band and r band image to test MODS1 vs MODS2 red channel counts (at Rick Pogge's request). 03:30 -- Observing Hz44 (just before 12 degree twilight). Seeing ~ 1.0 arcseconds 03:43 -- Acquiring ASASSN-15uh Need to repoint (missing star on SX) 03:51 -- re- Acquiring ASASSN-15uh 04:04 -- Observing 15uh, seeing ~ 1.3 (GCS) 04:08 -- 18 degree twilight exposure 1: Seeing is rising, average at 1.5 arcseconds (GCS) exposure 2: Seeing ~1.5 arcseconds (GCS) exposure 3: Seeing ~1.5 arcseconds (GCS) (32 degree elevation) 05:20 -- Acquiring UM_V2468cyg Recollimating at slightly higher elevation 05:44 -- grlamps and grlamps_mods2. Changed these to the 0.8 arcsecond slit so that the slitmask doesn't move. 05:58 -- when we went back to obsmode, the guide star was gone. Re-running acquisition script. gave MODS2 a 1.5 pixel shift right (0.18 arcsecodns) 06:10 -- Observing UM_V2468 seeing ~ 2.3 arcseconds (GCS) DIMM is 1.3 arcsecond seeing, DX occasionally fluctuates to 1.2 arcseconds (300s in 1st exposure) 06:43 -- End of exposure 3: DX seeing is 1.1 arcseconds (GCS guiding average) SX seeing is improving (2.0 arcseconds, fluctuating down to 1.1) DIMM seeing is 1.2 (we think it is elevation---started near 40 degrees, now at 51) 07:01 -- Beginning of exposure 6: DX ~1.0 arcseconds, SX ~ 1.5 arcseconds DIMM ~ 1.2 arcseconds 07:27 -- Started second block. Seeing is 0.8 arcseconds DX, 1.0 arcseconds SX. LUCI AO override is a possibility 07:50 -- LUCI AO in effect, we are letting this exposure finish (30 sec to go) Got 8/18 exposures. Seeing is 0.6 to 0.8 arcseconds. 10:05 -- Pointing and collimating on MODS 10:18 -- Acquiring OSU_ASASSN16fp 10:32 -- Observing 16fp, seeing ~0.7 arcseconds (GCS) 10:33 -- 18 degree twilight 11:28 -- Closing
