Date: 2016 June 16 UT Observers: P. Garnavich, M. Fausnaugh, J. Zinn TO: David G. SA: Barry R. Moon phase: 4 days before Full Summary: Opened to clear skies and some wind that quickly fell to normal levels. Conditions were photometric all night---we observed bright time LUCI2 targets (all UVa programs). Seeing was good (0.8--1.0 arcseconds) for most of the night, exceptional near morning twilight (0.6 arcseconds). Completed Programs (LUCI2): UVa_wise1210 UVa_wise1238 UVa_BCD/S1420 (HD128039) UVa_wise1521 UVa_BCD/W1702 (HD154276) UVa_wise1703 Uva_HS1851 (HD191124) UVa_wise1958 UVa_J2104 (HD206736) Calibrations: Evening darks, morning arcs and flats (lamps, imaging and spectroscopic). Details (All times UT): ---------------------------------- Plan is LUCI2 all night 00:30 -- Handover. Started up LUCI2 software Ran darks: 5 each of 3 sec, 5 sec, 10 sec (run manually) 02:33 -- Sunset. Skies are perfectly clear, some wind (12 m/s) 03:05 -- Pointing and collimating 03:52 -- Observing UVa_wise1210 Seeing 0.9 arcseconds (GCS) may be some issues with scattered light from the Moon (moon angle is 66 degrees) 04:10 -- 18 degree twilight 04:26 -- Observing UVa_wise1238 seeing ~0.8 arcseconds (GCS, good agreement in science images) 04:59 -- Acquiring UVa_BCD/S1420 05:15 -- Observing S1420 seeing ~0.8 arcseconds 05:44 -- Acquiring HD128039 (telluric standard) Observing HD128039 05:56 -- Observing UVa_wise1521 seeing ~0.9 arcseconds quite close to moon (18 degrees), but sky subtracts fine 06:32 -- Acquiring UVa_HD154276 (telluric standard) 06:42 -- Observing HD154276 06:44 -- Acquiring W1702 06:54 -- Observing W1702 seeing ~0.8 arcseconds Noticed that NDIT=2 and saveMode=Normal. Each NDIT is written as a single file---SA says this is a mistake by the PI. We can still see the trace in in subtracted images, so no problem with combining these later. 07:22 -- Observing UVa_wise1703 seeing 0.8 arcseconds (GCS) Found out that /newdata is not mounted on the LUCI computer. However, the data are backed up in three locations. 07:56 -- Acquiring HD191124 (telluric standard) 08:08 Observint HD191124 08:11 -- Acquiring HS1851 Didn't find guide star, have to recheck pointing 08:17 -- Re-acquiring HD191124 08:26 -- Observing HS1851 seeing 1.0 arcseconds (GCS) 08:54 -- Observing UVa_wise1958 Seeing 0.9 arcseconds (GCS) /newdata/ has been mounted, data are being copied 09:30 -- Acquiring UVa_J2104 obs2 GUIs froze, continuing on obs3 09:54 -- re-acquiring (can't tell if it is the nearby bright star) 10:08 -- Observing UVa_J2104 seeing ~0.7 arcseconds 10:40 -- 18 degree twilight 10:47 -- Acquiring HD206736 (telluric standard) 10:55 -- Observing HD206736 10:56 -- Observing wise2345 seeing ~0.65 arcseconds 11:33 -- Closing up 22:50 -- UVa_BCD flats (had to redo because no mask moved in) exposure time also incorrect, doing these manually
