Date: 2016 Oct 28 UT Observers: Jon Brown, Suk Sien Tie TO: Steve A. SA: Barry R. Moon phase: Summary: Clouds were pretty bad all night, so we tried bright targets. Eventually they got too thick and we took some calibration data. Clouds began to thin around twilight, so we tried one last target. Completed Programs: OSU_ASASSN/PWNG54103 OSU_ASASSN/KDdivBLRqsos UM_M33stars/M33-7 (very thick clouds) ND_LLSthick/J0951 (mostly in twilight) Calibrations: Details (All times UT): ---------------------------------- Plan is MODS and see what the weather does 00:00 -- Handover/software start-up. Clouds are looking pretty thick. 01:50 -- OSU_ASASSN - PWNG54103_3 Seeing FWHM ~1", clouds were ~4 mag extinction but by the time the integration started they weren't so bad. 02:20 -- OSU_ASASSN PWNG54013_1 Still fighting clouds so we'll stick with bright targets. 02:30 -- Started science exposure. Seeing ~1". 02:55 -- OSU_ASASSN - PWNG54013_2 Clouds getting worse, pretty thick on horizon. Some blue flux will be lost due to atm refraction. 03:05 -- Started science exposure. 03:20 -- OSU_KDdivBLRqsos - J2341 telluric Seeing 1.3. Had to do red fits flush. 04:00 -- Started J2341 science exposure. Seeing ~1". Clouds are still present. 04:50 -- OSU_KDdivBLRqsos - J0020 telluric Some issues with a MODS timeout error. 05:14 -- Started telluric exposure. Had to abort and update MODS gui to clear the error (MODS tried to IMCS lock while it thought it was reading out, which may have caused subsequent issues). Clouds momentarily thin, but it don't last. 05:40 -- Started science exposure. Had to edit the acq script to be 3Kx3K since the object is being placed on an offcenter slit. 06:39 -- UM_M33stars - M33-7 Clouds moving in from the West, but we'll give it a shot. 06:55 -- Started science exposure. At least a few magnitudes of extinction from clouds. 07:30 -- Clouds getting really thick, these probably won't be useful 08:37 -- Standard star - G191-b2b 08:48 -- Started exposure. 09:05 -- Too cloudy to observe anything, going to zenith, doing calibrations. 11:47 -- Aborted MODS1 cals to try and get one last target in, so some MODS1 slitflats (filenames blue ~ 77, red ~ 93) may be unreliable. 12:05 -- ND_LLSthick - J0951 Slightly after the observing window; later exposures have bright sky background. Seeing is a little over 1". More clouds. These exposures may be of little use. Calling it after 2; almost no stars visible.
