Date: 2016 Nov 18 UT Observers: M Fausnaugh, S Johnson TO: Steve A. SA: Olga K. Moon phase: 4.5 days after full. Summary: Clear night with excellent seeing (sub-arcsecond) and photometric conditions. Began with LBC for ~1.5 hours, reconfigured for MODS, and ended with LBC for last ~1.5 hours. Minor technical issues: ---obs4 remote agent started to freeze toward the end of night, lost ~15 minutes while focusing LBC. ---Strange call in MODS calib script took 90 8kx3k biases to be written (no loss of time). We don't know why it took these, didn't see it happening because we were observing with LBC) ---Smudge visible R-BESSEL filter in evening twilights and observations. Completed Programs: OSU_DES/highz1, ND_nova, OSU_ASASSN:15t,CSS1010v OSU_Monitor: N6503, N6946, N925, N3627 Attempted OSU_Monitor/N3689, but close to moon and backgrounds were very high---halved exposure times and ran script twice. Calibrations: LBC: Uspec, B, V, and R skyflats. MODS: Biases, pixel flats, slit flats, arcs, imaging biases and r-band flats. Slit flats and imaging calibs taken in morning. ***mods2r naming is especially confusing:*** mods2r.20161119.0001 -- mods2r.20161119.015: Calibs mods2r.20161119.0016 -- mods2r.20161119.0101: junk biases mods2r.20161119.0102 -- mods2r.20161119.0138: Science images mods2r.20161119.0138 -- mods2r.20161119.0138: Calibs Standard star: gd71 Details (All times UT): ---------------------------------- Plan: Start with LBC for early OSU_monitor targets, switch to Binocular MODS. 23:25 -- (11/18) Running MODS calibration scripts, powering on LBC Running LBC biases 00:33 -- Opening, halted MODS calibrations (need slit flats and imaging cals) clear skies (likely photometric) 00:40 -- Running sky flats (blue: U-spec, B, V; red: R) Uspec ~15k--25k (5 images) B ~12k --20k (5 images) V ~12k --20k (5images) R ~12k--35k (15 images) strange pupil image on LBCred---LBTO is investigating smudge is confined to R-Bessell---secondary mirror is blocking LBCred---as we only have 3 LBC targets, we will not reconfigure to look inside.
