OSURC run 1 February 2017 UT MODS1+2 and LUCI1 UT 00:15 In the late afternoon it was reported that LUCI was having communication issues which were preventing the movement of masks. Testing is delaying the dewar fills and the start of the night. Conditions are mostly clear, with some cirrus approaching from the west. UT 02:40 LUCI1 released for observations. Enclosure opening. Switching to MODS since there are no LUCI targets in the early night. UT 03:10 Pointing and aligning. Seeing is 0.7 - 0.8" UT 03:32: GD-71 standard. mods1b.20170201.0001 through 0003 mods1r.20170201.0003 through 0005 mods2b.20170201.0001 through 0003 mods2r.20170201.0004 through 0006 Thin clouds here and there, especially to the west. UT 03:50: Acquiring UVa_BCD J0811+4730 We created an acquisition file that has a slit rotation appropriate to the current time. UT 04:20: Starting observations. Seeing ~ 0.6" at start, improving through the run of these observations to about 0.5". mods1b.20170201.0004 through 0009 mods1r.20170201.0009 through 0014 mods2b.20170201.0004 through 0009 mods2r.20170201.0010 through 0015 UT 06:05 Switching to LUCI. UT 10:35 Switching back to MODS. UT 11:05 Acquiring ASASSN-16cx. Collimation on DX took about 15 minutes. UT 11:23 Starting observations. Seeing 0.7" - 0.8". mods1b.20170201.0010 through 0013 mods1r.20170201.0018 through 0021 mods2b.20170201.0010 through 0013 mods2r.20170201.0020 through 0024 --------------- LUCI1 observations ------------------------------------------------------------- UT 04:40 While we are taking images with MODS, we are obtaining calibration frames on LUCI. The scripts for the darks configured the instrument, putting in masks and installing the science gratings. This is incorrect, so we are doing the darks manually. Filename: luci1.20170201.xxxx.fits 1 - 12 various test images 13 - 22 darks 15sec UT 06:30 Setting up and positioning. One of the alignment stars is outside the field of view. Another of the alignment stars is an optical double. Finished alignment about UT 06:55, and starting science. First image number in data series is #30. Seeing was mostly near 1.0", with up and down periods. 30 - 209 science frames After stowing telescope, we did calibration frames. The pre-prepared scripts did not work, so we called Barry and he walked us through manually doing the calibrations. 210 - 219 flat, lamp off 6 sec DIT 220 - 229 flat, halo2 lamp on, 6 sec 230 - 239 flat, lamp off 3 sec 240 - 249 flat, lamp on 3 sec 250 - 251 Ne lamp off/on 252 - 253 Ar lamp off/on 254 - 255 Xe lamp off/on
