OSURC run UT 2 February 2017 LBC + LUCI Observers: Terndrup, Liss, Wiens Telops: Bechetti Staff observer: Rothberg ------------------ LBC observations ------------------------------------ Some thin clouds here and there at sunset. Starting with LBC. UT 01:00 Some bias frames to start. UT 01:30 Sky flats in B (blue) and R (red). First is a test image. Bit of a delayed start. because of some issues at the telescope. UT 02:10 At NGC2403 for focus and first look at seeing. DIMM = 0.72 UT 02:21 NGC 2403 observations for OSU_Monitor. Low priority target, but all higher-priority targets are up later in the night. Run the OBs twice while we are waiting for other objects to rise. Clouds approaching from west UT 02:50 Go to NGC 925. Convergence on the red side is slow, requiring five iterations. UT 03:07 Science observations begin. FWHM is 0.7" on focus images. Seeing worsened somewhat during series. UT 03:30 Setting up on M82. UT 03:55 Observations of M82. UT 04:05 Setup on M81. UT 04:21 Observations of M81. Seeing is good tonight, about 0.7 - 0.8" UT 04:35 Setup on NGC 3077. UT 04:42 Observations of NGC 3077. UT 05:00 Setup on I2574. Some moonlight causing problems on the SX side, so vents were closed a bit. UT 05:15 Observations of I2574. Ran the OB twice. Software got hung up after two of three images in the second set. So we quit then and switched over to LUCI (see notes for LUCI below) UT 10:20 Switching back to LBC. UT 11:00 Resuming OSU_Monitor galaxies Thin cirrus blowing by overhead. UT 10:20 Switching to LBC. Doing northern targets to avoid looking into the wind. Pointing and setup delayed because of error message about left swingarm position. It was necessary to point the telescope to the zenith, which ruined the collimation and required us to do the dofpia process again, with more loss of time. Seeing 0.7" UT 11:25 Finally on target: NGC 4449. Seeing 0.8". UT 11:38 Acquisition and data for NGC 4605. UT 12:03 Acquisition and data for NGC 4736. Very slow convergence on the red side. UT 12:35 Acquisition and data for NGC 5474. GUI freezes on last image, exposure sequence stopped and resumed. Then twilight sky flats, in V(blue) and R(red), followed by U(blue) and R(red). Warning: there are some thin clouds in the sky but not too much junk in the direction the telesope is pointing. ----------------- LUCI observations ----------------------------------------- UT 06:10 Switchover complete. .xml file for the pre-target standard was incorrect. According to the readme file, the selected telluric star was HIP 43018, but the supplied xml file was for HIP 4308; this star is not up. We will therefore start with the target and do the second telluric. UT 06:27 Starting to set up on the target. MOS error upon starting script. Calling Dave Thompson. UT 07:15 Instrument has been cleared for observation. 45 minutes lost. UT 07:35 Alignment and offset complete, science exposures starting soon. Filename luci1.20170202.xxxx.fits Image Content ------------------------------------------------ 0003 - 0009 Centering and offset images 0010 - 0021 LeoP science images 0022 - 0025 Setup for HIP59861 0026 - 0027 Science frames for HIP59861 Wind 6 - 10 m/s during the last couple of images, with telescope aimed right into it. UT 14:00 and later: some calibration images for LUCI. The scripts supplied for the UM_XMDs cannot be used, as they are for LUCI1. So we will will get arcs and flats manually. Darks will come later to avoid persistence issues. Starting with #28 flats lamp off flats lamp on arcs lamp off and lamp on
