Date: 2017 Nov 16 UT Observers: Jon Brown, Patrick Vallely TO: David Gonzalez SA: Dave T Moon phase: Summary: Some clouds at start, should clear up later on. Minor technical issues: Completed Programs: ND_carbon/jy1118 ND_carbon/jy2040 OSU_SNIaHosts/GALAXASCJ021558 UM_NGC2403/NGC2403_f1 UVa_BCD_MODS/J0820 Calibrations: LBC: MODS: UM_NGC2403/ngc2403_f1.cal UM_NGC2403/ngc2403_f2.cal LUCI Standard star: Feige 110 G191-b2b Details (All times UT): ---------------------------------- 00:00 - Handover 01:20 - Still a little bright, starting with standard Feige 110. Clouds are a little patchy, but not too bad at the moment. 01:30 - Moving to ND_carbon/jy1118. Conditions are going to be a little iffy for the first half of the night. 02:00 - Some thin clouds moving in. 03:00 - Clouds getting a little thick around us, but ok overhead. 03:10 - Transparency deteriorating pretty rapidly. The last 1-2 exposures are likely (significantly) affected. 03:30 - Conditions are pretty poor, we'll stick with bright lower priority targets. 03:40 - Started ND_carbon/jy2040.obs 04:20 - First 3 exposures ended up being under good conditions, but thick clouds moved in on the last one, guiding was in and out. We're doing a few more exposures, since conditions aren't good enough to do much else. 04:30 - The next hour or so is going to be pretty iffy, but should be clear afterwords. 05:45 - Trying to acquire on OSU_SNIaHosts/GALEXASCJ021558 but clouds are causing some issues. 06:00 - Going to start science observations, but there are intermittent thick clouds. 06:30 - The thick clouds seem to have cleared; still some thin cirrus. 07:10 - Moving to a standard in advance of the UM_NGC2403 observing window. 07:15 - g191b2b.obs 07:30 - Moving to UM_NGC2403 07:45 - Starting UM_NGC2403_f1.obs 10:00 - Conditions clear and steady throughout obs execution. 10:05 - Moving to OSU_SNIaHosts/SDSSJ103529 Conditions are not bad; some thin clouds visible away from zenith. 10:15 - Starting SDSSJ103529.obs Conditions are starting to deteriorate. Faint trace (maybe) visible. Target too faint/diffuse for these conditions. 11:30 - Moving to UVa_BCD_MODS/J0820 Conditions have improved. Exposure times were determined for binocular MODS; since we're only using MODS1 we're execute the obs twice. 11:40 - Started J0820.obs There is actually an issue with the obs script prepared with the OT. The exec block contains the observing commands twice; it worked out in this case since we planned on running the exec block twice, but if we were also running MODS2, the script would have run longer than intended (or we would have to manually stop it). We don't have the xml file on hand to check what might have caused this. 12:50 - Ending with the MOS calibrations
