Date: 2017 Nov 18 UT Observers: Jon Brown, Patrick Vallely TO: David Gonzalez SA: Dave T Moon phase: Summary: Closed almost all night due to clouds/wind/humidity. Opened for a short while, tried some OSU_monitor targets, then did some twilight flats. Minor technical issues: Completed Programs: Calibrations: LBC: Flats (r+I, Uspec+CN817) MODS: grpixflat specflats grlamps imflats (r-band) N2403_F1 N2403_F2 LUCI: UM_XMD specFlats and arcs UVa_WISE_Imaging imaging flats Standard star: Details (All times UT): ---------------------------------- 00:00 - Handover ect. Weather does not look promising. 02:00 - We're going to be closed for the foreseeable future due to some combination of wind, clouds, and humidity, so we're going to run some MODS and LUCI calibrations. 06:00 - Finished calibrations. A note about the LUCI imaging flats calibrations: these were taken by hand and some of the LUCI1 flats were taken with a blind filter left in. It should be evident in the log file which ones should be avoided, and which ones were configured correctly. 10:30 - Looks like we might be able to give it a try. Going to attempt LBC, mainly to get some twilight flats in. 11:30 - Starting OSU_monitor/N2403 Seeing is >1", but seems to have improved over the course of the observations. 11:40 - Moving to OSU_monitor/N2903 Blue is having problems focusing, but the conditions aren't ideal, so this isn't a surprise. Given time constraints we're committed to this sequence of exposures; fortunately the red images look good. 12:25 - Red backgrounds getting pretty high but we're just going to let it run. 13:00 - Should be able to start sky flats soon. Plan is r+I and then Uspec+CN817, possibly Uspec+TiO784. 13:25 - We paused the second set of U+CN flats to scale down the exposure times. Some clouds moved in at the end, but we might have missed them. 13:30 - We're going to try U+TiO but I suspect it is too bright. Suspicions confirmed. We're done for the night, CN flats will have to wait until next twilight.
