Date: 2018 Jun 08 (UT) Observers: Jon Brown (OSU) TO: Geno Bechetti SA: Dave Thompson (on call) Moon phase: Summary: Minor technical issues: LBC Blue filter wheel hardware failure. MODS2 VFlat lamp seems to be working. Fire alarm. MODS1 data freeze. MODS1r image counter reset after exposure sequence. MODS2 slitmask move fault Calibrations: MODSPhotCal/gd153 MODS slitflats (0.6, 0.8, 1.0, 1.2) Completed Programs: MODS: ND_LLSgals/j1419a OSU_ASASSN/ASASSN17pg OSU_ASASSN/PS110jh OSU_ASASSN/ASASSN18jd Details (All times UT): ---------------------------------- Plan: Plan is to do LBC for almost the entire night, switching to MODS at the very end to try and get ASASSN18jz. This plan lasted all of 15 minutes; new plan is switch to MODS all night. 02:30 - Sunset. The clouds haven't moved off yet, so we're probably going to be delayed opening like last night, but they're forcasted to move out. 03:30 - Getting set up on N3627 and we have a blue filter hardware failure....we've looped in several people to try and troubleshoot, but we may need to bail to MODS. 04:00 - We tried our best, but given that LBC blue is a no go tonight. We've also got clouds moving in, so we're going to reconfigure for MODS and go from there. 04:35 - Starting MODSPhotCal/gd153. Conditions are looking not bad; the threatening clouds have for the most part moved off. Seeing is ~1" but occasional spikes. 05:10 - Starting ND_LLSgals/j1419a. Seeing is pretty poor (~1.5"), but sky is generally clear. 06:15 - The Steward fire alarm went off during the ASASSN17pg acquisition. Lost ~20-30 min. Apparently a smoke detector went off in the basement. 06:25 - MODS1 data has froze during acquisition, Olga is rebooting it. 06:35 - Started OSU_ASASSN/ASASSN17pg. 07:00 - Conditions holding steady; seeing is not great (~1.2"). 08:00 - Starting OSU_ASASSN/PS110jh Sky is still clear, seeing is dramatically better at this elevation, guider FWHM ~0.6". 09:30 - Conditions looking pretty good. Seeing ~0.7", guide star flux steady. 09:45 - Going to stop this after 5/6 and get set up for ASASSN18jd. The moon is going to be awfully bright... 10:25 - Starting OSU_ASASSN/ASASSN18jd Finally, we should get data for this object. Seeing is ~1.5" and the sky is pretty bright, but the first spectrum looks good; this should take us to 12 degree. 11:05 - Something odd just happened with MODS1r. As the expsure sequence completed, the image counter on MODS1r reset back to 1 of 3. The pop-up windows from execBinoMODS show that the exposure sequence has finished...and yet MODS1r is still taking images. Here's the filename breakdown: mods1r.20180608.0017 - thru slit mods1r.20180608.00[18-20] - scripted exposures mods1r.20180608.00[21-22] - extra unrequested exposures 11:15 - Going to run the slitflats, and that will do it for this run. 12:25 - Got a slitmask move fault on MODS2. Retry worked; unclear if just a communications glitch or a mechanical issue... 12:50 - Cals finished up.
