Date: 2019 Mar 30 UTC Observers: Danielle Berg and Jack Neustadt TO: Steve Allanson SA: Barry Rothberg Moon phase: Waxing crescent Summary: Plan is to start the night with LUCI and do LBC second half. There is a system over the Atlantic, so may or may not get hammered with cloud tonight. Ran into a series of issues with LUCI scripts and spent the majority of the night fixing them. Also had a "fatal" LUCI error and so had to abort makemake program and move to LBC. Oye. ALTA predicted seeing peaking at 1.4" for the night, but it had significantly larger jumps than that. Plus thin clouds. Calibrations: LUCI_MAKEMAKE cals Completed Programs: UM_XMDs LUCI_MAKEMAKE (partial, G2V, AOV, and science script once) OSU_MONITOR_NGC4826 OSU_MONITOR_NGC4236 Standards: Details (All times UT): ---------------------------------- 01:44 - pointing and columnating 02:10 - Starting UM_XMDs program Acquriing Telluric star P_beta filter wheel failure Had to edit scripts to not use anything below P_beta on the wheel 02:30 - Re-aquiring Telluric star First tried to use the middle of the 1.5" slit, but cause co-pointing limit error, so use top of slit instead 02:49 - Executing telluric star observation 03:00 - Acquiring ACG198691 - this target used the 2.00"/1.5" slit, which requires absorbing a special offset to make sure you don't hit the co-pointing limit (same error as before). This would be my (Danielle's) error in this script / but wasn't aware that the slit was split in two. This wasted quite a bit of time. 04:30 - We background-subtracted two images and then average combined them and did see continuum, so soldiering on. - due to fast movement through transit, LUCI2 image 0065 is no good 04:40 - Looking through about a magnitude of extinction 04:55 - Settled down to 0.5 magntiudes of extinction - Seeing has been highly variable 06:00 - Starting UVa_Makemake First telluric script has a strange acquisition sequence - no image with mask in turnout was taken. - took image wiht mask in turnout and retook image with mask in with clear+z filters to see slit Had a failure on LUCI1 changing camera 07:00 - Starting second stadnard star. The scripts were missing the LUCI secquence from the iterator, so the settings were not set for the first images. We generated a new script prior to running, hence the long delay. 07:18 - Starting starting Makemake.xml 07:35 - The guide star probe fully covered the target so chose a new one in the OT; none of the other guide stars that are out of the fields way had R band magnitudes, but the TO was able to still get sextractor to grab on. 08:00 - Seeing stabailized, down to 0.5". 08:12 - Error reading out image 100 on LUCI2; was named ~1 by LUCI instead. Checked the repository and seems to be names fine, so just an aladin issue? 08:40 - It had been a long time since we started, so redid AOV star 09:00 - Tried to reaquire Makemake but ran into a slew of LUCI2 problems Mask wheel was stuck and took a long time to fix Then had a communication error with GEHRS that Barry was unable to fix 10:25 - Can't use LUCI so moving on to LBC 10:45 - Observing OSU_MONITOR_NGC4826 Seeing spiked as was highly variable. :/ 11:45 - Observing OSU_MONITOR_NGC4236 Again, variable seeing
