Date: 2019 Dec 23 UTC Observers: Phillips, Vallely, Wood TO: Steve Allanson SA: O. Kuhn Moon phase: Waning Crescent (Illumination 16%) Summary: Calibrations: Feige 110 dual grating and red/blue standard Slit flats for 2.4" slits (for UVA_FRAGN) Slit flats for 5" slits (for OSU_STORM) Binned Completed Programs: OSU_ASASSN/ASASSN19acc OSU_TXS0506/txs0506 (5 of 6 exposures) Details (All times UT): ---------------------------------- 00:45 - Set up and planning to start by getting the requested second observation of OSU_ASASSN/ASASSN19acc once we hit twilight. 01:15 - Noting 1-2 mag of cloud extinction and starting observation of 19acc. 01:50 - Getting Feige 110 standard. 02:30 - Sky conditions appear strangely good, so we're going to try our luck and go after OSU_TXS0506. 02:40 - Starting observation, looks like between 2 and 2.5 mag of cloud extinction with seeing between 1.2" and 1.5". 04:20 - Cloud extinction fluctuated between 2 and 0.5 mag for most of the observation, with an average closer to 0.5. 04:50 - Got blown off preset by wind gusts, so the last exposure was lost. 04:55 - Moving to the more northern target OSU_ASASSN/PS18kh to hopefully avoid further issues with the wind. Cloud cover caused us to lose the guide star initially, and even after changing the script to a 12.5 mag start it still failed. 05:20 - The wind wins this round. Gusts are past the limit, so we're closing up. 05:45 - Doing slit flats for the 2.4" and 5" slits since we hadn't gotten those earlier. 06:05 - Getting binned calibrations for the ND_paloma program. MODS1 blue hung on image 5 of 5 ("Starting exposure 5 of 5..." never went away in Dashboard). Tried fixing by hitting Update, then "blue expdone" but does not appear to have been fixed. Eventually got it to work by hitting "Go" to take another bias manually. 07:00 - Weather still sucks, so we are closed. 08:00 - Weather still sucks. 09:00 - Weather still sucks. 10:00 - Clouds are getting even thicker, and the wind is forecasted to stay gusty for the rest of the night, so we're going to call it and head out.
