Date: 2020 Jun 21 UTC Observers: Wood, Garnavich TO: David Gonzalez SA: Olga Kuhn Moon phase: dark Summary: Hybrid remote observing (Zoom/Anydesk from South Bend), telescope set up for starting with LBC. Smoke from the Bighorn fire near Tucson still a problem. Ran binned MODS calibrations and created updated scripts to put in osurc folder. Never opened, although the smoke conditions did improve towards the end of the night. Calibrations: MODS biases, pixel flats, slit flats, cal lamps (all binned 1x2) MODS acquisition imaging biases, flats (1Kx1K) Arc lamp tests Completed Programs: Details (All times UT): ---------------------------------- 02:45 - Closed at sunset because of wildfire smoke. 03:20 - Summit still reports particles in flashlight beam and smell of smoke. Compared to yesterday, particles are smaller and there are fewer of them. 03:50 - Starting MODS biases, binned 1x2. 04:05 - Starting MODS pixel flats, binned 1x2. Repeating the script for MODS2 because settings were incorrect the first time and a fits flush messed up some exposures. 04:30 - Summit conditions still the same. Remaining closed. 04:45 - Starting MODS slit flats, binned 1x2. 05:00 - Starting MODS lamp calibrations, binned 1x2. It's possible that the Ne lamp didn't turn on properly for a couple exposures (mods2b #34, mods2r #26). Or maybe the Hg lamp? Repeating the lamp cals. 05:35 - Starting 1Kx1K biases. 05:40 - Summit report still the same, lots of particles in the air. 05:50 - Starting MODS imaging flats (red onlyn, 1Kx1K). 06:25 - Starting arc lamp tests to see which (if any) are not working properly, as indicated by note above. . 06:45 - Still lots of particles from smoke on the summit. Conditions seem better than last night, but not good enough to open. 07:50 - No change in summit conditions. Remaining closed. 07:55 - Starting another round of binned pixel flats, with an adjustment to the MODS2 settings (trying to get non-saturated flats) 08:45 - Smell of smoke no longer present on summit but lots of particles still in the flashlight beam. 09:40 - Particles still present in flashlight beam on summit.
