Date: 2020 July 16 UTC Observers: Garnavich (ND) & Kuhn (LBTO) TO: David Gonzalez (Tucson) + Tim Castro (LBT) SA: Olga Kuhn Moon phase: dark Summary: After clouds and even rain, the skies started to clear around 3 am and we opened in time to obtain 3 5-min spectra on the bright target, tic269. We did not have time to observe a spectrophotometric standard. Calibrations for tic269 were taken in the morning. There was rain earlier in the day and clouds at sunset. The enclosure has not yet been opened at midnight. For a while, there were some stars visible on the all-sky, but around 06UT, they closed in again. At 3am, it started to clear and there were no clouds overhead for a while. By about 6:00 am, the all-sky camera showed the sky covered in clouds again. Details (All times UT): ---------------------------------- Earlier in the evening, woke up both MODS and took pairs of sieveSnap images. modsNc.20200716.0001.fits 07 UT: Waiting for the handover - so far the enclosure has not been opened and now there appear to be drops of water on the allsky. 07:20 Reconfiguring from LUCI to MODS. 07:30 The allsky no longer shows droplets, but the sky is still covered by clouds. 08:18 Tim reports that it is currently raining. Again the allsky shows droplets. 10:15 The allsky is showing more stars and the satellite and radar look pretty good. 10:24 We are opening. 10:42 Having some trouble pointing on SX or trouble focussing. We are on a star near the tic269 target. 11:00 Pointing correction made. Now collimating. 11:03 acqBinoMODS tic_pa-50.acq Seeing ~1.2" on the DIMM and 1.3/1" on the guiders. Alignment: mods1: MODS1 Offset Command: offsetxy -1.084 10.905 rel 0004 was the confirmatory thru-slit - looked good. mods2: MODS2 Offset Command: offsetxy 3.743 6.799 rel 0004 came up to the left. Gave a nudge 0.246" in dx 11:14 execBinoMODS tic.obs Red Channel spectra will be 5-7 Blue Channel spectra 2-4 On 6, seeing was 1.3-1.4", but it is going down to 1.1 - bouncing up and down. 11:37 acqBinoMODS feige110.acq We are well into twilight, but will give it a try. MODS1 - a comm glitch on the PARTNER command, but it did not timeout, just took a while. 11:41 Some clouds bubbling up on the allsky in the S. We cannot find the guide star - it is too bright. 11:45 We are closing and taking cals: dual lamps, dual pixflats and 1" dual slitflats; once we are closed. I decided to add biases (1K and 8K) and 1K red-only r_sdss imaging flats in case they may be needed for the acquisition images. * There are four extra mods1r pixflats as mods2r ones. I ran the command: execBinoMODS grpixflats_m1.txt grpixflats_m2.txt from /home/modseng/modsScripts/modsCalibs_OT/Dual The scripts differ only slightly and not so as to cause 4 extra images on mods1r, so I don't know how they were taken. They could not have been taken simultaneously with the UG5 blue flats, since the VFLAT setting was 5, not 10, andit is clear the MODS1 script took longer than the MODS2 one. ** During the final set of MODS1R slit flats that are taken by the 1" slit flat script (grslitflats_1.0_m1.txt in the same directory as above), I had an error on the Red GO "Go already in progress". Let abort/retry/ignore prompt sit unanswered as the exposures continued to be taken. When they were done, aborted the script. There seems to be 1 extra mods1r calibration. 13:33 Done: put both MODS to sleep.
