Date: 2020 Nov 18 UTC Observers: Patrick Vallely, Jack Neustadt, Rick Pogge TO: Steve Allanson SA: Jenny Power, Alexander Becker Remote Participants: Charlotte Wood (ND), Mike Coughlin (UMN) Special Assistants: Trim, Bentley, Mrs. Chippy All observers and SAs working remotely from their respective homes. Moon phase: Waxing Crescent (Illumination: 7%) Summary: Good night of MODS observations. Minor issues with intermittent clouds. Calibrations: 2 standard stars Standard MODS calibrations + imaging flats Executed Programs: UVa_BCD_MODS/PHL293B OSU_Lithium/BrownDwarf5 UVa_WISE_AGN/J0342+37 OSU_Lithium/BrownDwarf2 UM_Dwarfs/j0519 OSU_ASASSN/HD45762obs1 OSU_ASASSN/ASASSN20jq Details (All times UT): ---------------------------------- 00:15 - On schedule to open, planning on MODS. 00:40 - Working on collimation when the sky darkens. 01:10 - Ready to start on standard Feige110. Seeing is about 0.9". 01:35 - On track to start UVa_BCD_MODS/PHL293B at 18-deg twilight. 01:50 - Starting exposures, currently 0.6" seeing. 02:45 - Moving on to OSU_Lithium/BrownDwarf5. Losing some time due to the non-standard acquisition required for this target. 03:00 - Science exposure sequence started. Some nice 0.9" - 1.0" seeing. 03:28 - Strange motion(?) seen in the guide images. 04:05 - Light clouds now overhead, seeing briefly up to around 1.1". 04:40 - Disconnect between MODS2's GUI and reality led to us needing to abort the script after the third exposure. Doesn't seem to have impacted the actual image (still 1800s exp). 05:15 - Moving to UVa_WISE_AGN/J0342+37. Seeing is about 0.95". Science started at 05:27. 05:40 - Lost the guide star for couple minutes due to clouds. Planning to add an exposure at the end of the sequence to compensate. Seeing averaging 1.1", but bouncing around. 06:20 - Now moving on to OSU_Lithium/BrownDwarf2. Seemingly good conditions, seeing is around 0.85". 07:25 - Intermittent clouds causing 1-2 mags of extinction. Adding another exposure to compensate for lost cloud time. 09:25 - Starting observation of UM_Dwarfs/j0519. Seeing is 0.7", with a small bit of cirrus. 10:45 - Starting science exposures for OSU_ASASSN/HD45762obs1. Seeing is about 0.8", and all-sky appears to be cloud-free. 11:00 - Now hitting standard GD71. Impacted by clouds, so worth considering using the Feige110 shot from the start of the night. 11:40 - Slewing to try and squeeze in OSU_ASASSN/ASASSN20jq. Lost a few minutes needing to update the acq script because it was using a galaxy as a guide star. Science exposure started at 12:00. Third exposure taken after 18-deg but before 12-deg twilight.
