Date: 2020 Nov 23 UTC Observers: Patrick Vallely, Jack Neustadt Remote Participants: Rick Pogge, Charlotte Wood TO: Steve Allanson SA: Olga Kuhn All observers and SAs working remotely from their respective homes. Moon phase: Half Moon (Illumination: 53%) Summary: Worked with LBC all night, all OSU_monitor targets. Moderate clouds and bright moon made observations difficult for the first half of the night, but seeing was <1". Clouds cleared up, but then seeing went up due to changing temperatures. This especially affected LBC-R data. At around UTC 11, we had to close due to wind. Opened back up to do one last target and skyflats. FOCUS SCRIPT FOR I2574 SHOULD BE CHANGED. Calibrations: LBC V/I flats (probably need to redo) Executed Programs: OSU_monitor/N628rnd2 (x2) OSU_monitor/N672rnd2 (x2) OSU_monitor/N925 OSU_monitor/N2403rnd2 OSU_monI/OSUmonIN2403 OSU_monitor/M82 OSU_monitor/M81rnd2 OSU_monitor/N3077 OSU_monitor/I2574 OSU_monitor/N2903rnd2 OSU_monitor/N4605 OSU_monitor/N4395 Details (All times UT): ---------------------------------- 00:44 - starting with LBC 00:48 - doing LBC V/I flats clouds are making counts wonky, might need to redo no stars in flats 01:06 - began acquiring for OSU_monitor/N628rnd2 01:23 - clouds are making collimation difficult multiple attempts at collimation 01:57 - began exposures for OSU_monitor/N628rnd2 not great, very few visible stars background counts are very high, ~47k counts last R band image may have been saturated 02:10 - recollimating running 1/2 length exposures for OSU_monitor/N628rnd2 seeing around 0.8", background still high 02:39 - re-running at 1/2 length 02:55 - wind speed increasing seeing around 0.8" 03:00 - began acquiring for OSU_monitor/N672rnd2 some issues with collimating 03:25 - began 1/2 length exposures for OSU_monitor/N672rnd2 seeing around 0.9" 03:45 - began 1/2 length exposures for OSU_monitor/N672rnd2 seeing around 1" 04:06 - began acquiring for OSU_monitor/N925 04:15 - began normal length exposures for OSU_monitor/N925 seeing around 0.7" 04:38 - clouds are starting to clear 04:54 - began re-exposing for OSU_monitor/N628rnd2 got one pair of images, but had to move to next target (south to north) because of wind 04:55 - began acquiring for OSU_monitor/N2403rnd2 some issues with OSU_monitor/N2403 focus script 05:17 - began exposing for OSU_montior/N2403rnd2 seeing in red around 1.1" 05:32 - began exposing for OSU_monI/OSUmonIN2403 seeing around 1.2-1.3" 05:45 - began acquiring (again) for OSU_monitor/N628rnd2 wind seems to have gone below limits where we can observe 05:58 - began exposures (again) for OSU_monitor/N628rnd2 06:13 - seeing around 0.9-1", steadily improving 06:35 - began acquiring (again) for OSU_monitor/N672rnd2 06:46 - began exposures (again) for OSU_monitor/N672rnd2 seeing around 1-1.1" 07:05 - pausing to recollimate, PSF was wonky for first few R band images 07:14 - began re-exposing for second half of OSU_monitor/N672rnd2 07:22 - clouds returning - grr PSF "gradient" still in images 07:32 - began acquiring for OSU_monitor/M82 07:48 - began exposures for OSU_monitor/M82 seeing around 1.1", image quality degrading over time 08:00 - began acquiring for OSU_monitor/M81rnd2 08:06 - began exposures for OSU_monitor/M81rnd2 seeing around 1.2" 08:18 - began acquiring for OSU_monitor/N3077 08:27 - began exposures for OSU_monitor/N3077 seeing around 1.3-1.5", gradient in PSF may be due to temperature changing 08:41 - began acquiring for OSU_monitor/I2574 issues with collimating due to bright star in focus field FOCUS SCRIPT SHOULD BE CHANGED significant delays because of focus field/collimation issues 09:15 - began exposures for OSU_monitor/I2574 seeing around 1.2" 09:35 - began acquiring for OSU_monitor/N2903rnd2 issues with focus field ... again, bright star in the field 09:47 - began exposures for OSU_monitor/N2903rnd2 seeing around 1.6" in LBC-R, 1.2" in LBC-B 10:11 - stopped halfway thru obs to recollimate, as LBC-R collimation was degrading rapidly (likely due to temperature fluctuation issues) 10:20 - began exposures (again) for OSU_monitor/N2903rnd2 still degrading over time Olga says that this could be fixed in the OBs such that the focus adjusts between exposures 10:35 - began acquiring for OSU_monitor/N4605 10:55 - began exposures for OSU_monitor/N4605 seeing around 1.1" 11:10 - began acquiring for OSU_monitor/N3489 11:11 - had to close for wind 11:45 - still closed for wind 12:27 - opened back up 12:33 - began acquiring for OSU_monitor/N4395; 18 deg twilight starts 12:40 - began exposures for OSU_monitor/N4395 13:10 - doing I band flats - mediocre
