Date: 2021 Jan 04 UTC LBTO Observer: Olga Kuhn Observers: Mark Whittle (UVa), Rick Pogge (OSU) Remote Participants: Hayley Williams, Noah Rogers, Atharva Gorantiwar (UM) TO: Steve Allanson Special Assistants: Trim, Mrs. Chippy All observing is remote in C-19 mode. Moon phase: Waning gibbous, 70% illuminated, so bright time after ~0500UT Twilight at ~0150UT evening, 1250UT morning Summary: Bright time run started with LUCI1+2 binocular, then MODS, then LBC. Clouds at sunset but cleared off by twilight and seems to stay clear most of the night. Seeing started out bad and variable (1.5-2" or worse), improved steadily to sub-arcsec by dawn. Closed-dome remaining LUCI and MODS calibrations end of the night into morning. Instruments: LUCI1+2, MODS1 R+B, MODS2 B, LBC Red Unavailable: MODS2 Red (suspected dewar leak), LBC Blue (rotator failed) Calibrations: Twilight sky and Closed-dome spectral calibrations for LUCI ND_j0053ir General MODS closed-dome calibrations Completed Programs: LUCI ND_j0053ir (do-over from previous night) MODS: ND_merger (j0053 visible) OSU_ASASSN HD45762 and ASASSN20qj (full program) UVa_FR_AGN J0807+21, J0950+51 (2 of 6 targets) LBC: OSU_monitor: N2403, N3077, N4258, N5194, M101, M81, M82 Time Lost: HBS issue fixed, no recurrence, no time lost to telescope. No time lost to instrument issues. No time lost to weather (but some time sub-standard bad seeing) Details (All times UT): ---------------------------------- 00:55 Opened enclosure, configured for LUCI 01:03 Pointing and collimation check near first field, Seeing 1.8+ arcsec ND_j0053ir 01:53 Slew to telluric HIP6002, seeing ~1.4-arcsec but variable 02:07 Spectra at K, H, and J 02:21 Slew to J0053 to acquire for spectroscopy 02:45 Start of K spectra 02:59 Start of H spectra 03:21 Start of J spectra ----------- 03:28 - Reconfigure for MODS 03:42 - check pointing and collimation ----------- ND_merger 03:55 - Slew back to J0053 for the MODS time-series spectra, acquire 04:09 - start of observing, minor hiccup in modified scripts, seeing ~1.1 arcsec 04:12 - seeing puffy, up to 2", but generally around 1.0 to 1.2-arcsec 06:22 - end at airmass 1.73, seeing ~1" Flux star: G191B2B 06:38 - acquire G191B2B, MODS` dual grating, MODS2 blue only seeing ~0.7-arcsec OSU_ASASSN 07:08 - HD45762 MODS spctra.
