Date: 2021 Feb 11 UTC LBTO Observer: Olga Kuhn Lead Partner Observer: Hayley Williams (Minnesota) Other Partner Observers: Rick Pogge (OSU) Telescope Operator: Steve Allanson Moon phase: 1d Waxing Cresent Summary: It snowed before sunset, but through Steve's efforts to prevent accumulation we were able to open around midnight. We observed two LUCI programs then reconfigured to the LBCs until dawn. About 5.25 hours were lost to weather. The seeing improved over the time we were open, starting at ~1.5" and going down to <1" during the UM_Flashlights observation. See the AGw Data plot on the OSURC webpage for the record (during LUCI) LUCI programs: OSU_XMDs: UGC4483 UM_Flashlights: longslit2 LBC programs: OSU_monitor: M81, N4236 Calibrations: LBC biases, no MODS or LUCI closed-dome calibrations needed Details (All times UT): ---------------------------------- 23:30UT Light snow started 00:15UT Accumulation noticeable on the roofcam, snow becoming heavy 00:40UT Running snow melt, in case conditions allow us to open later 02:30UT Snow ongoing 05:50UT Roof is clear. Waiting for clouds/humidity 07:13 Steve is opening the chamber. The humidity had been hovering around the limit for a while although the skies had cleared, but now it is trending down. 07:23 Checking pointing and collimating near the first target. The seeing is <2". OSU_XMDs_LUCI - UGC4483 07:29 Slewing to the telluric, HIP39822 07:45 Slewing to the science target, UGC4483. 08:09 starting science. We had a LUCI1 camera wheel error moving from N375 to N18. The negative limit was hit. Re-initialized and checked flex comp mirror offsets were OK using sky lines. UM_Flashlights/longslit2 09:24 slewing to longslit2 science target. The guide stars were not found and Steve is trying to nudge them into the acquisition field, then resent the preset. 10:00 starting the science integrations. There was a pause in the sequencer after the blind offset was made. I'm not sure why. 10:03 Now we are starting the science integrations. The seeing is about 1" on average. 10:36 The seeing is now down to 0.72"/0.86" on the SX/DX side. 11:33 slewing to longslit_telluric2 The mask went to turnout for the confirmatory through-slit images and then it went on to take the spectra with no pause. Let it go as the spectra are there, will check later. Should have paused, found it was an undetected script error. Made a new version of the OT file, UM_Flashlights_revised_v2.xml and put it in ~/OBs/UM_Flashlights for future reference. ================================ 11:52 Reconfiguring to the LBCs 12:05 - Steve is going up to check a drive fault on the swing arms. 12:19 - Steve resolved the problem (it happened between the prime focus & tertiary but we're not sure right now what exactly the problem was). IT 8319. OSU_monitor M81 12:25 Slewing to M81 12:27 dohybrid, 1 wfs + 2 fpia iterations 12:33 copointing 12:36 Starting the science integrations 12:48 finished 12:41 18-deg twilight OSU_monitor N4236 12:48 Slewing 12:50 focus with dofpia 12:54 Starting the observation. 13:06 finished 13:22 Steve closed the chamber. Clouds came in at twilight so no sky flats. Closed Dome Calibrations: No closed dome calibrations were remaining for MODS and LUCI. LBC Biases - 25 LBC biases. The LBCR biases show horizontal striping, which is a problem we sometimes see (may be more common at zenith), but the LBCB ones look fine.
